Project Details

For the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards in Seville, Studio Moross developed the house looks across the awards set, the recurring on-screen graphics that carry each part of the ceremony. They had to align with the broadcast branding while letting every category and winner moment feel distinct.

Eight house looks were created, each with typographic variations for award categories and winner reveals. The challenge was designing for an unconventional screen architecture, including a grid that wrapped across both wall and ceiling surfaces.

The content ran through d3 playback, synchronised across the main grid, the award doors and the surrounding LED surfaces so the whole space read as one environment. I also worked onsite in the lead-up to the show, refining scale, pacing and brightness against the physical stage and the broadcast camera tests.

Design Insight

The motion was tuned to the size of the room. Scale and pacing were critical, given the size of the stage and the complexity of the LED environment, the motion was deliberately restrained to maintain an ambient presence during category segments, shifting to higher impact moments during winner announcements.
